If you're like most people, you didn't save thousands of dollars just to blow on a new, seasonally appropriate wardrobe. I bet there is at least one thing you bought for summer that you only wore once or, perhaps, the tags are still on it. As you're putting your summer gear in Rubbermaid containers, you see that dress/shirt/etc. and think "ahh man...well, I hope this trend carries over into next year!" Well, stop right there, pull that item back out of the container, and put it right back on the hanger in your closet.
First and second looks: Chiffon and other sheer fabrics are perfect for hot summer days when you're tired of abusively wearing those old jeans that you cut into Daisy Duke-style booty shorts (special thanks goes out to tumblr for showing us too many perfectly round, cellulite-free bums covered in four square inches of denim, for giving us all the hesitant courage to consider showing the very bottom of our butt cheeks to the world). The sheer fabrics are day to night appropriate and drape beautifully on all body types, so why ditch them for most of the year?! A masculine leather moto jacket with constructive hardware is a look that has been tried and true for the past few seasons. A newer look that I love is the oversized sweater over a short or maxi-length dress. Style Tip: go for a shorter, boxier fit when paired with a dress/skirt with an above-the-knee hemline.

Third look: Another look that is being resuscitated from past seasons is layering shorts. I'm not so big into the cut-off style being worn post-summer, but I love a more tailored cut with a cuffed hemline worn over semi-sheer tights and topped off with thigh-high socks (easily one of my most eagerly anticipated fall accessories) and boots. Since fall is all about mixing textures, don't be afraid to add more knits and other heavier pieces to your outfit just as Catherine of The Native Fox does so perfectly here.

Fourth look: By now I hope we have all learned that fashion has no rules and that white has the green light all-year-round. Repeat after me: it's not what you wear it's how you wear it. In this look we see a creamy white lace dress sitting underneath a dark-colored blazer with strong button details. Navy is just so lovely with this shade of white, but luckily you can go with virtually any deep, fall color (think burgundy, ox-blood, emerald green, deep purple, etc.) for this look. Think you can't pull off over-the-knee boots? Oh, yes you can.

Fifth look: Florals stay with us for yet another season and although I'm experimenting more with other bold patterns this year, this ultra-pretty-gal look is a true classic. Another look that is flattering for all figures, a long cardi over a darker, bolder floral dress is guaranteed for a day of cute and comfortable. Tip: to keep this style from looking sloppy or Mary-Kate circa 2006, make sure that your cardigan and dress fall at about the same length.
